Rabies Vaccination

About the vaccine

  • You should complete the vaccination course at least one month before travel if visiting areas where rabies is a risk.

  • The course consists of three doses, given over 21 to 28 days.

  • A booster may be recommended every 2–5 years if you remain at risk.

  • An injection in the upper arm.

  • Side effects can include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, headache, and muscle pain.

  • The vaccine is suitable for children of all ages.

  • Avoid contact with animals in high-risk areas and seek immediate medical attention if bitten or scratched, even if vaccinated.

  • Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, causing progressive brain inflammation that leads to paralysis and death.
