About the vaccine

You should complete the vaccination course at least one month before travel if visiting areas where rabies is a risk.

The course consists of three doses, given over 21 to 28 days.

A booster may be recommended every 2–5 years if you remain at risk.

An injection in the upper arm.

Side effects can include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, headache, and muscle pain.

The vaccine is suitable for children of all ages.

Avoid contact with animals in high-risk areas and seek immediate medical attention if bitten or scratched, even if vaccinated.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, causing progressive brain inflammation that leads to paralysis and death.
