About the vaccine

You should get vaccinated at least one week before travelling to a high-risk area.

The course consists of two doses, taken 1 to 6 weeks apart.

A booster dose is recommended after two years if you remain at risk.

An oral vaccine, taken as a drink.

Side effects can include mild digestive issues such as nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhoea.

The vaccine is suitable for children over the age of two.

You should practise good food and water hygiene, including drinking bottled or purified water, even if vaccinated.

Cholera can cause severe diarrhoea and dehydration, which can be life-threatening if untreated.
