Cholera Vaccination

About the vaccine

  • You should get vaccinated at least one week before travelling to a high-risk area.

  • The course consists of two doses, taken 1 to 6 weeks apart.

  • A booster dose is recommended after two years if you remain at risk.

  • An oral vaccine, taken as a drink.

  • Side effects can include mild digestive issues such as nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhoea.

  • The vaccine is suitable for children over the age of two.

  • You should practise good food and water hygiene, including drinking bottled or purified water, even if vaccinated.

  • Cholera can cause severe diarrhoea and dehydration, which can be life-threatening if untreated.
